More than a century has passed since Murray first wrote Abide in Christ. While his central message remains valuable and relevant, much of the language, presentation, and repetition found in the original no longer speaks as directly to modern readers.
 
This edition is a 21st-century update of Murray’s classic. I have preserved the central theme of maintaining a close relationship with Christ while substantially rewriting and expanding the material for Christians living today. The chapters address practical Christian living, spiritual growth, Bible study and interpretation, spiritual warfare, family responsibilities, Christian apologetics, and effective evangelism.
 
Wherever possible, I have retained Murray’s earnest concern for helping Christians remain close to Christ. However, the chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to address the questions, pressures, responsibilities, and spiritual dangers facing believers in the twenty-first century.
 
My prayer is that this updated edition will help a new generation of Christians develop a deeper knowledge of God’s Word, strengthen their relationship with Christ, mature spiritually, and live faithfully in a fallen world.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Andrew Murray (1828–1917) was a South African pastor, missionary, teacher, and prolific Christian author whose writings have influenced generations of believers. Born in Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, he studied in Scotland and the Netherlands before entering the ministry. During more than five decades of Christian service, Murray became widely known for his emphasis on prayer, humility, obedience, spiritual growth, and a close relationship with Christ.
He authored more than 200 books and devotional works, including Abide in Christ, Absolute Surrender, With Christ in the School of Prayer, and Humility. His clear, earnest writing continues to challenge Christians to take their faith seriously and apply biblical truth to everyday life.
