BOOK DESCRIPTION
C. H. Spurgeon was one of the most influential Christian preachers and writers on the gospel and the life of faith. A devoted pastor, evangelist, and author, he repeatedly urged Christians to love God sincerely, serve Christ willingly, and express their convictions through purposeful Christian living.
Known for such Christian classics as All of Grace, Around the Wicket Gate, The Treasury of David, and Lectures to My Students, Spurgeon produced an extensive body of books and sermons. His earnest concern for wholehearted Christian devotion continues to encourage readers to examine their motives and put biblical truth into practice.
THIS IS NOT A REPRINT OF C. H. SPURGEON’S ORIGINAL WRITINGS.
More than a century has passed since Spurgeon addressed the desires, priorities, and responsibilities of Christian life. His call to sincere devotion remains relevant, while contemporary circumstances require careful application of scriptural instruction. Constant distractions, competing ambitions, demanding schedules, and discouragement can weaken a believer’s interest in pursuits that deserve sustained attention.
Awakening the God-Given Passions of Our Hearts is a twenty-first-century update drawing upon Spurgeon’s concern for active faith and willing service. I have preserved that earnest purpose while substantially rewriting and expanding the material for readers today. The twenty-one chapters examine motives, love for Jehovah, Scripture study, gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice, prayer, moral courage, marriage, parenting, evangelism, congregational service, compassionate care, hospitality, diligence at work, generosity, peacemaking, defending Christian truth, developing abilities, protecting priorities, facing opposition, adjusting goals, and pursuing everlasting life.
The chapter titles, explanations, and applications have been revised according to the historical-grammatical meaning of Scripture. Particular attention is given to examining desires by God’s Word, developing useful interests, and directing enthusiasm toward responsibilities and pursuits that honor Jehovah.
My prayer is that this updated edition will encourage readers to examine their ambitions honestly, strengthen their love for Jehovah and His Son, and renew their willingness to serve. May it help them turn worthy desires into deliberate action, use their abilities responsibly, and sustain their commitment to faithful Christian living.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Charles H. Spurgeon (1834–1892) was one of the most influential Christian preachers of the nineteenth century. Known as the “Prince of Preachers,” he pastored the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, where thousands gathered weekly to hear his powerful, Scripture-centered sermons. A gifted expositor, prolific author, and passionate soul-winner, Spurgeon devoted his life to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and training others for faithful Christian service. His sermons, lectures, and books have shaped generations of pastors, teachers, evangelists, and lay believers. Among his many enduring works, The Soul Winner remains one of his most practical and stirring calls for Christians to reach the lost with courage, clarity, and compassion.
