BOOK DESCRIPTION
DIFFICULTIES IN THE BIBLE: A 21st Century Update of Alleged Errors and Contradictions
R. A. Torrey was one of the most respected Bible teachers and defenders of the Christian faith in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A powerful preacher, evangelist, and author, Torrey was known for his clear thinking and unwavering commitment to the truthfulness of Scripture. Through his writings and preaching, he helped countless believers stand firm in their confidence in the Bible.
Known as a bold defender of biblical authority, Torrey’s work continues to strengthen Christians facing skepticism and doubt. This updated edition brings his classic Difficulties in the Bible into the 21st century — preserving his core teaching while adapting the language and application for today’s readers.
This is not a reprint of R. A. Torrey’s original book.
More than a century has passed since Torrey first wrote Difficulties in the Bible. While his defense of Scripture remains as strong and relevant as ever, the style and language now feel dated to modern readers.
This edition is a 21st-century update of Torrey’s classic. I have kept his core message and powerful defense of the Bible intact, while rewriting much of the content and language for today’s world. The heart of the book — answering the most common objections and alleged contradictions in Scripture — is just as needed now as it was in Torrey’s day.
Wherever possible, I have maintained Torrey’s clear and logical style. However, chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to address the questions and challenges people face in the twenty-first century.
My prayer is that this updated edition will strengthen a new generation of believers to have full confidence in the trustworthiness of God’s Word.
