BOOK DESCRIPTION
R.A. Torrey was one of the most influential Christian leaders of his generation. A powerful evangelist, brilliant scholar, and fearless defender of the faith, he stood boldly against theological liberalism and helped lay the foundation for modern Christian apologetics.
Known as a pioneer in biblical defense and practical Christian work, Torrey’s books have influenced generations of believers. This updated edition brings his classic How to Work for Christ into the 21st century—preserving his passion and proven methods while adapting them for today’s world.
This is not a reprint of R.A. Torrey’s original 1901 book.
More than a century has passed since Torrey first wrote How to Work for Christ. While the core principles he taught remain powerful and true, many of the specific methods he described now feel dated to modern readers.
This edition is a 21st-century update of Torrey’s classic. I have kept his core message, passion for souls, and practical approach intact while adapting the methods and language for today’s world. The heart of the book—training ordinary Christians to share the gospel effectively—is just as needed now as it was in Torrey’s day.
Wherever possible, I have maintained Torrey’s direct and straightforward style. However, chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to reflect how a believer living in the twenty-first century would carry out this vital work.
My prayer is that this updated edition will stir up a new generation of Christians to go out and work for Christ in their own day and in their own way.
