BOOK DESCRIPTION
George Park Fisher was a respected American theologian, church historian, and professor in the late 19th and early 20th century. A careful scholar and clear thinker, he wrote to strengthen the faith of believers and equip them to intelligently defend Christianity against the rising challenges of skepticism and unbelief.
His book Manual of Christian Evidences has helped many understand the solid historical and logical foundations of the Christian faith. This updated edition brings his classic work into the twenty-first century, preserving his careful reasoning and commitment to Scripture while adapting it for today’s world.
THIS IS NOT A REPRINT of George Park Fisher’s original work.
More than a century has passed since Fisher first wrote this defense of the faith. While the core arguments he presented remain powerful and true, many of the specific illustrations, cultural references, and expressions he used now feel dated to modern readers.
This edition is a twenty-first-century update of Fisher’s teaching. I have kept his core message, clear reasoning, and commitment to the historical reliability of Christianity intact while adapting the language and presentation for today’s world. The heart of the book—equipping Christians to intelligently defend the truth of the gospel—is just as needed now as it was in Fisher’s day.
Wherever possible, I have maintained Fisher’s careful and logical style. However, the chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to reflect how a believer living in the twenty-first century can defend the faith in everyday conversations.
My prayer is that this updated edition will help a new generation of Christians stand confidently for the gospel and give a reason for the hope that is in them.
