This edition is a twenty-first-century update of Moody’s teaching. I have kept his central message, practical emphasis, and commitment to the authority of Scripture intact while completely rewriting the language, structure, and presentation for today’s world. The heart of the book—helping Christians experience both pleasure and profit through serious Bible study—is just as necessary now as it was in Moody’s day.
 
Wherever possible, I have maintained Moody’s direct, encouraging, and practical spirit. However, the chapter titles and content have been rewritten to explain how Christians living in the twenty-first century can study the Bible carefully, understand its message accurately, and apply its truths faithfully.
 
My prayer is that this twenty-first-century update will help a new generation of Christians develop a lasting love for the Word of God and discover the spiritual pleasure and lasting profit that come from diligent Bible study.
