More than a century has passed since Ramsay first published his defense of the New Testament’s historical trustworthiness. While the central arguments remain relevant and persuasive, many of the illustrations, cultural references, expressions, and discussions of then-recent discoveries belong to the world in which he lived.
 
This edition is a twenty-first-century update of Ramsay’s research. I have retained his central arguments, method of investigation, and confidence in the historical reliability of the New Testament while revising the language and presentation for a modern audience. The heart of the book—demonstrating that the New Testament, especially the writings of Luke, is supported by archaeology, geography, and external historical evidence—remains unchanged.
 
Wherever possible, I have preserved Ramsay’s orderly and evidence-based approach. However, the chapter titles and much of the content have been rewritten to address the questions, objections, and forms of skepticism encountered by Christians today.
 
My prayer is that this updated edition will help a new generation examine the archaeological and historical evidence for the New Testament, overcome doubt, and confidently defend the trustworthiness of Scripture.
