This edition is a 21st-century update of Chambers’ classic. I have sought to preserve his earnest emphasis on discipleship, obedience, faith, character, and wholehearted devotion to Christ while rewriting and adapting the material for contemporary Christians. The heart of the book remains Chambers’ determination to confront the reader with the searching demands of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
 
Wherever possible, I have retained Chambers’ direct and compelling style. However, the language, explanations, illustrations, and applications have been revised so that readers living in the twenty-first century can more readily understand and apply the biblical truths under consideration.
 
My prayer is that this updated edition will introduce a new generation of Christians to the searching message of the Sermon on the Mount and encourage them not merely to admire the words of Jesus, but to order their lives according to them.
