James Stalker (1848–1927) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister, theologian, educator, and author whose writings helped generations of readers understand the life of Jesus Christ and the beginnings of Christianity. Trained in the rigorous biblical and theological tradition of nineteenth-century Scotland, Stalker combined pastoral experience with a gift for clear, vivid exposition.
He became especially known for The Life of Jesus Christ and The Life of St. Paul, works valued for their accessible presentation of the biblical narrative, historical setting, and spiritual significance. Rather than writing only for specialists, Stalker sought to make serious biblical study understandable to ordinary Christian readers, pastors, teachers, and students.
