BOOK DESCRIPTION
Andrew Murray was one of the most influential Christian writers on faith, prayer, and spiritual growth. A devoted pastor, missionary, and author, he repeatedly called believers to take their relationship with Christ seriously, submit themselves to the Word of God, abandon fleshly self-reliance, and pursue a life of faithful obedience.
Known for such Christian classics as Absolute Surrender, Abide in Christ, With Christ in the School of Prayer, and Humility, Murray authored more than 200 books and devotional works. His earnest concern for the spiritual condition of Christians and the church continues to challenge believers to examine their conduct in the light of Scripture.
THIS IS NOT A REPRINT OF ANDREW MURRAY’S ORIGINAL BOOK.
More than a century has passed since Murray wrote The New Life. While his desire to help Christians understand what it means to begin and grow in a life devoted to Christ remains valuable and relevant, believers today face intellectual, emotional, cultural, and personal pressures that require clear and direct answers from the Scriptures.
This edition is a 21st-century update of Murray’s instruction on the Christian’s new life. I have preserved his earnest desire to help believers understand and live out their commitment to Christ while substantially rewriting and expanding the material for readers living today. The chapters examine what happens when a person comes to an accurate knowledge of God’s Word and responds to Jesus in faith; forgiveness, grace, repentance, and breaking free from the sins and failures of the past; cultivating love, humility, and Christlike character; walking according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit-inspired Word; developing daily habits of prayer, Scripture study, and Christian fellowship; and putting faith into action through obedient Christian conduct, service, evangelism, relationships, work, and the responsibilities of everyday life.
Where necessary, Murray’s theological language and interpretations have been revised to conform more closely to the historical-grammatical meaning of Scripture. The Christian’s spiritual direction does not come through mystical impressions or private revelations but through the written Word produced under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
My prayer is that this updated edition will help new and maturing Christians build their lives upon the Spirit-inspired Word, leave former sinful ways behind, cultivate a Christlike character, strengthen their relationship with Jehovah through prayer and Scripture, and put their faith into action as they continue faithfully along the path leading to eternal life.
