The Bible is a collection of 66 “books” that were written over a period of more than 1,600 years. Thirty-nine books of the Old Testament were written in Hebrew, with very small portions in Aramaic, while the twenty-seven books of the New Testament were written in Koine (common) Greek. Therefore, we have 40+ authors penning sixty-six books over a 1600-year period in three languages and dozens of different cultures and historical settings. Because it was written so long ago, there are things that we, in the 21st century, may find difficult to understand. This unique commentary provides historical, social, and cultural background for many passages of the Old Testament. The Introductions to the Bible books will provide valuable information on the background and contents of the books of the Bible.
